The Power of Yet

This week during assembly, I shared a song with our students about the Power of ‘Yet’. Yet is a powerful word that reminds our kids that we all have the ability and power to improve. Having a ‘can-do’ attitude can make us unstoppable, mistakes and failures make us stronger and give us a chance to learn. Instead of saying a phrase like “I can’t sing” remind your child to say, “I can’t sing yet”. Adding this powerful little word, changes a phrase into a growth mindset. The word Yet brings hope and ignites a can-do attitude – we are all on a learning journey (even us adults!) and there is no room to give up. We just sometimes need a reminder that if we add yet to a statement when we think we are unable to do something, we are saying that we will get there someday. Yet reminds us to persist and persevere, it helps our kids stay in control of their words and emotions, it reminds all of us – young and old – that if we keep trying, learn from our mistakes and stay positive we will one day reach our dreams and goals.

VOLUNTEER INDUCTION SESSIONS Thank you to all our parents who have attended these and are starting to come into the community to help both in and out of the classroom. If you have been unable to attend one of our sessions, however, and would still like to be a volunteer, please contact the office so that we can arrange a session for you to attend. Additionally, if you have attended one of our sessions don’t forget to do Part 2 of your induction by clicking on the email link sent to you and completing your Valuing Safe Communities training.

CAFÉ FLOURISH – need a coffee after drop off? Café Flourish is open each morning from 8:00am – 8:45am. If you have time, take a moment to connect with another parent or a new family in the school, we look forward to seeing you there!

CROSS COUNTRY Our Junior School Campus came alive last Thursday as we ran, jumped, danced, listened to rock bands and celebrated as a whole College. Thank you to all our parent spectators and volunteers who joined us for this event – it was most certainly a memorable day and we can’t wait to do it all again soon! Age Champions and Runners-Up will be announced during Assembly on Thursday, 6 May due to the Year 6 students being on Camp this week.

TOYS FROM HOME Just a reminder that students should not be bringing any toys from home to school. We have talked about this with students during assembly today and are asking your support to follow through with this conversation from home. The only exception to the rule is if your teacher has met with you and approved the use of an in-class support fidget toy. We have plenty of activities and a variety of things to do during our break times for our students. We even have our own Beyblades for students to use at break times so no need for any items to come into school. If you have any questions regarding what can or cannot be brought into school please contact your child’s teacher for assistance.

Year 6 Canberra Tour Information night This information evening is happening on Tuesday, 4 May from 5:30 – 7:00pm. Café Flourish will be open at 5:00pm for parents who wish to catch up and have a coffee together prior to the evening commencing.
