Principal's Message T1 W6 2021

Love Persevering

This week we said farewell to two people connected with our college community who passed away recently. Brian Osland, husband of Deb one of our previous executive team, passed away last week and his funeral was held at St James Lutheran Church at Cleveland on Monday. Brian had served as Chair of the local congregation and was well-known and loved by many.

Christian Stern also passed away last week as well, his funeral was held at St James Lutheran Church in Hervey Bay on Monday. Christian had taught in a number of Lutheran Schools including St Peter’s Indooroopilly and St James Hervey Bay. He was known to our community through his recent work for ALWS (Australian Lutheran World Service) where he would come into school and workshop with students and staff and helping them understand and advocate for those in our world who are most marginalised. He too was a lovely bloke and loved by many.

We were saddened to hear that two of our students lost their dad this week too, having passed away suddenly at a young age. Our thoughts and prayers are, of course, with them and their family.

I am a fan of the Marvel series of Avengers movies. The recent spin-off, WandaVision, is religiously watched in our household each week. This week’s episode saw a profound statement by the character Vision to his partner Wanda.

‘What is grief but love persevering?’

How wonderful. At this time of loss in our community, as we work through the grief that we all feel we know that it is indeed our love for those departed that continues. It brings us both sadness and joy, joy in remembering, sadness in our loss.

May our God of Grace unite us through the tough times and the good as His love perseveres through each of us in service of one another.
