Contemporary Schooling at Faith

Success in life is so much more than just a result at the end of Year 12. Across the school we have developed a truly holistic place of learning where students have every opportunity to achieve their personal best in every area and the confidence to move forward into an ever-changing contemporary world.

Our approach is underpinned by a list of lifelong qualities for learners developed by our staff that we wish all students to leave the Secondary School with. These qualities are:

  • self-directed, insightful investigators and learners
  • discerning, resourceful problem solvers and implementers
  • adept, creative producers and contributors
  • open, responsive communicators and facilitators
  • principled, resilient leaders and collaborators
  • caring, steadfast supporters and advocates
  • In response to this need to develop these qualities in our students we have been working hard to innovate our curriculum and create space for students to have choice in learning, inquire and problem solve instead of just be spoon fed the same content as everyone else.

In support of our developing initiatives like Project Based Learning, the foundation phase for our Year 7 students and the MyPath program that students currently navigate in Maths and English in Years 8 – 10 we have appointed two staff as Innovation Leaders in 2021. These are Mrs Kristi-Leigh Paterson and Mrs Teagan Parham. Their role will initially support staff in the implementation of contemporary practices then later in the year we look forward to them providing material to support our families’ increased understanding of the way we do learning at Faith Lutheran College Redlands.

    Student Voices

Our meetings with the student groups around the Year 8-9 curriculum continue to be a source of amazement for us. The students are thinking big and raising topics that are important to them as well as those that bring value to their lives.

Whilst some topics such as life skills, budgeting, climate change and paying taxes reoccur, some new subject suggestions have been raised over the last 2 weeks. Biology on other planets, surfing, app development and architecture were all on the list this week. Coaching and mentoring were also mentioned as potential subject inclusions, showing us that our students are thinking about how they can help others, displaying the Faith values without even realising it.

We are so proud of our students for participating and engaging and for being so open with their ideas.
