Off to a Flying Start

What a first few weeks of Term!

You really know you are in a special school when things are busy and opportunities are plentiful. This week, I have been extremely grateful for our students’ involvement in all of the Anzac events. From The Cantabile Strings and Voices of Faith, to the students that marched, the Cadets I saw taking active roles in the Cleveland Service and finally our Year 10 students that laid flags at the graves of service people. Our students were respectful and well presented on all occasions.

Parent Teacher Interviews

We look forward to seeing our families at the Parent Teacher Interviews next Tuesday. If you missed out on an appointment to see a particular teacher, please do not hesitate to contact them directly to arrange another time or seek written feedback on how your child is going.

Parent Survey

Over the first few weeks of Term Two we have been meeting with different students to discuss our plans to review our Year 8 – 9 Curriculum. Through that process we have been asking students the question “If you could learn anything at school, what would you learn?”. We asked them to avoid saying actual subjects and encouraged their thoughts and ideas. The types of things that students came up with were:

  • Nutrition
  • CPR
  • School art/graffiti
  • Sign language
  • Social media- safety stuff
  • How to run a business
  • Political science
  • Psychology
  • Taxes
  • Architecture
  • Commerce
  • How to get a job
  • Computer building
  • Biology on other planets
  • Survival skills
  • Self defence
  • Life skills
  • How to write/create a book
  • Work experience
  • How to code apps
  • We are now really interested to hear from parents about what types of things would they like their students to learn in Year 8 and 9.

If you are interested in providing feedback, please keep an eye out for a letter that will be sent home soon and then complete the survey provided.
