From Our Libraries T3 W10 2021

Book Week

Children’s Book Week is fast approaching – 21-27 August. The theme this year is a broad one with which we can be really creative - Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds. We have some special events planned throughout the week, but the one which always causes great excitement is the dress-up day! Students are invited to dress as a book character on the following days:

  • Junior School – Tuesday, August 24.
  • Secondary School – Wednesday, August 25.

Premier’s Reading Challenge

It’s fantastic to see so many completed forms for the Premier’s Reading Challenge being returned to the library. There is still plenty of time for students from Prep-Year 9 to finish, so keep the reading happening. The reading period finished on August 27. Certificates are handed out in November.

Chess

There are still some places available in our lunch time chess classes at Junior School. Designed especially for children in Prep and above, Chess Mates classes are fun, interactive and tailored by our teachers to suit the students in each class. To book please go to https://chessmates.com.au/school-lessons/ (Faith Lutheran College is listed under 'East Brisbane').

Last week our Secondary Chess Club participated in a half-day coaching clinic with Gardiner Chess in the lead-up to the next interschool competition. Lots of fun was had by all and many new strategies are being put into practice. Secondary chess players meet each Tuesday at lunch in the Lighthouse to play some friendly matches.
