From Our Libraries T3 W3 2022

Readers Cup (Year 7 to 9)

On Thursday of Week 3 we have had some keen readers represent the College in the Year 9/10 Brisbane Bayside Regional Readers Cup Competition. In the weeks leading up to the competition students worked together as a team of four to read and closely study four set texts. On the day, teams competed against 15 other schools in a trivia-style event answering questions about each of the books. Between rounds students had the opportunity to hear local author Michelle Worthington share stories about her writing journey. Congratulations to Francesca O, Shilah R, Harrison M and Sienna T for their excellent efforts with some very challenging questions. We congratulate all 3 of our teams on their efforts in the competition this year!

Book Week

We have been continuing our build up to Book Week. The library is slowly starting to evolve into a waking dream to reflect this year’s theme, “Dreaming with Eyes Open”. Competitions will be starting in the coming weeks and as always there will be a dress up day in Week 7. Book Week will run from the 20th to 26th of August.

Please don’t always feel like you need to buy something. DIY costumes are also great. Have a chat with your child about different ideas and ways to create them.

eSports

This term the Fuse Cup game is Rocket League – if you are in Years 7-10 and are interesting in playing Rocket League on the Nintendo Switch come along to lunchtime training in the Lighthouse on Monday (7-8) or Wednesday (9-10). Training for Overwatch, Rocket League and League of Legends on PC for Years 9-12 has not changed this term and is still on Monday lunch, Wednesday lunch and Thursday after school. If you have any questions see Miss Degens, Mr Parham or Mr Cuckson.

Premier’s Reading Challenge (Prep to Year 9)

We are quickly coming towards the end of the Premier’s Reading Challenge for another year.

It’s fantastic to see how many forms have already been returned.
Students have until the competition ends on August 29th to continue reading and submitting forms.

Senior School Book Club

Late last term we started a new Book Club that is open to all secondary school students. This club meets every Monday lunch time in the Loft and chooses books to read and discuss. At the moment, the club has started by reading the modern Australian classic “Tomorrow When the War Began“ by John Marsden. Anyone who is interested in participating is welcome to come along and join in.

Overdue Books

Often there are books in high demand from our borrowers, with students making reservations and waiting eagerly for others to return them. Please help us out by regularly sending in library books (and Home Readers) on your child's allocated day, so that your child can borrow different books and other students can have the opportunity to borrow those titles
