From Our Libraries T3 W8 2021

eSPORTS

Congratulations to our Year 5/6 and Year 7/8 eSports students who competed for the first time recently at the Fuse Cup Competitions, playing Rocket League. All pairs had some very close games, but more importantly lots of fun! Fuse Cup gives young students the opportunity to participate in a safe, supportive, and structured eSports competition and integrates learning about positive gaming behaviours and digital well-being into the program.

eSports is continuing to grow in popularity, being played alongside traditional sports in school settings. Local, state, and international competitions are now regular fixtures on many calendars.

Our Year 9-12 eSports students are looking forward to heading to QUT next week to compete as part of the Queensland High Schools eSports League.

AUSTRALIAN READING HOUR

Next Tuesday, September 14 is Australian Reading Hour. Originally launched by Australian libraries for the National Year of Reading in 2012, the Australian Reading Hour began as an event for all Australians to set aside one hour on one day to read. It has since become an annual program featuring many events in libraries, schools, bookshops and even shopping centres and public transport. Why not set aside some time on Tuesday to put away devices and celebrate reading hours by just spending time enjoying reading with your families? Books are a great way to learn new things, unwind, discover new stories and so much more.

OVERDUE BOOKS

We have many books overdue at the moment. We'd appreciate families having a good look around home (and in lockers for older students) and returning books before the holidays. Students can return books before and after school, as well as during breaks; they do not need to wait until their library lesson day.
