Book Fair – Junior School

So many of our students look forward to Book Fair visiting each year and finding a new book to devour! Book Fair will be held in the Jungle Room and run throughout next week – 24-28 October. It will be open before school (from 8am), at lunchtime and after school, plus during our Grandparents/Special Visitors morning. Eftpos and cash transactions are available, but there will be no IOU's or phoning parents to bring money during the school day if your child forgets.

eSports - Fuse Cup

Recently, we had both our Year 5/6 and 9/10 Fuse Cup teams attend their respective regional Fuse Cup competitions. 80-100 students from schools across Brisbane currently attend these events and they are continuing to grow.

Year 5/6 travelled to Ormiston College to play Rocket League. Playing as teams of two, Lauren Hirst, Jackson Byrne, Alex Donaldson and Oliver La Rosa all had some super exciting, nail-biting wins in the early rounds. Alex and Oliver continued through to the quarter finals, semi-finals and eventually the grand final. By now they were on a roll, racing to a commanding lead and eventually winning by 7 goals to come home with the trophy! Alex and Oliver will now go on play in the state finals in early November.

Our Year 9/10 team consisting of Hannah Pratsch, Peter Idriss, Callum Goldfinch and Hunter Francis travelled to St Laurance’s College in South Brisbane to try their luck at Super Smash Bros - a great spectator sport according to our students. The competition was very tough, with 80 students reduced to just 16 after the qualifying rounds. Peter made it through to the round of 8 before being narrowly defeated in a great clash.

Congratulations to all students who have represented the College in Fuse Cup this year, they have done so with pride and shown great sportsmanship. Strength, integrity, inclusion and teamwork are four values which Fuse Cup works hard to instil in their competitions. Safe and responsible gaming, along with internet safety are also included; these important messages are shared in between every session on competition days.

Chess Mates Classes – Junior School

It’s not late to enrol in chess classes, which are run by Chess Mates and held in the library on Wednesdays at lunchtime. Chess is a great thinking game and there is a mountain of information around that tells us about the many benefits of playing. Term 4 might be the perfect time for your child to try out a few lessons to see if they enjoy it. Please visit the Chess Mates school lessons page for more information on their classes.

Lighthouse refurbishments – Secondary School

Our Secondary Students have been enjoying our Lighthouse library space after some refurbishment and rearranging was done during the last holidays, and we’ve received many lovely comments. A large number of Secondary classes use the space each week and many students also love visiting during their break times. Unlike more traditional libraries that some of us may have grown up with, modern libraries are bustling places for innovation and contemporary learning.

Overdue Resources

We appreciate library books and other resources being returned or renewed when they become overdue, otherwise library staff spend an enormous amount of time following these up. Junior School students receive printed overdue slips after their library lessons each week. Secondary students are expected to be more independent and responsible and are reminded by email. Please ask your children to have a good look around home for any library books.
