Book Fair

A big thank you to all families who supported our recent Book Fair. This enables the College to add many great resources to our collection. And a super big thank you to the team from the Events Committee, led by Natalie Morrisby, for their hard work in organising and manning the Book Fair during some very busy mornings and afternoons – your help is much appreciated!

Returning of resources

It’s almost time to close off borrowing for the year, collect all resources back and do our annual stocktake. To help us do this, we’d love to have everything back by the end of Week 8, November 25. We appreciate you having a good look around at home for library books, home readers, textbooks and the like. Please also check for overdue notices which may be emailed (sometimes they end up in junk) or printed and placed in Junior School diaries.

Keep reading in the holidays

There is no need for students to stop reading over the holidays because they can’t borrow physical books from our library. Books make excellent Christmas presents and holidays provide the perfect opportunity for the whole family to read. Audiobooks can also make those long road trips whizz by. No matter how old your kids are, it’s great to model reading and talk about reading with them.

eBooks are a great option during the Summer holidays when students aren’t borrowing from the library each week – eBooks will never be overdue and don't get left behind at exotic holiday destinations! Students from Yr 1-6 can borrow from our Primary ePlatform, whilst students in Yrs 7-12 can choose from the Secondary site. Sign in is with their school username and password. Please be aware that these are shared collections of books that we do not curate from scratch, and while they have proven to be excellent collections, there can occasionally be content that may be misaligned with school or family values. Take the time to talk to your children about what they are reading.

Our local Redlands libraries are another option for year-round borrowing and also host special activities for all ages. If you’ve never been to one of the local branches and joined up, the holidays might be the ideal time. Our Council libraries not only have vast range of physical resources, but also provide access to digital resources for members.

eSports

Last Friday we had three Year 6 students represent the College in the State Finals of the Fuse Cup eSports competition on the Gold Coast. Jake McGilvray took on other regional finalists in Mario Kart, while Alex Donaldson and Oliver La Rosa teamed up to battle it out in an epic three-way Rocket League show-down. Both games came down to the wire, and while our students didn’t come away with the trophies in the end, they represented the College with pride and had lots of fun. Thank you to Mrs Bell and Mrs Cook for assisting with all our Junior School eSports teams this year. We are looking forward to more exciting competitions next year!

Our Year 9-12 eSports team also had their final day out at the QUT High School League recently. Students who have been involved in this competition have visited QUT once each term to play against other schools in QUT’s purpose-built facilities and have also had the opportunity to be involved in the casting of eSports. Along with play and broadcasting, eSafety lessons feature prominently on these days. Thank you to Jordan for helping out with coaching the QUT team and to the Secondary staff who have supported not only our QUT team, but also our Secondary Fuse Cup teams this year – Miss Degens, Mr Parham, Mr Cuckson and Miss Hilton.
