INSPIRATIONAL MESSAGES FROM NATIONAL YOUNG LEADERS DAY

Listening to, and sharing stories, has become a theme here at Faith. Intentionally we are tuning in, sharing and appreciating our own and others journey. In these times, we are learning to understand others better. The Year 6 elected leaders were privileged to attend the National Young Leaders Day on Monday, 28 March. It was a day of receiving inspirational stories, founded on key messages to which we can apply. We all left feeling like these words of inspiration are applicable to each and every one of us and so, we would like to share some of these messages with our Faith community.

The opening guest speaker Her excellency the honourable Dr Jeanette Young, PSM, inspired us with stories about her journey to becoming the Governor of Queensland.

Her thoughts included:

  • find what you are passionate about
  • persevere with the support of role models
  • be kind
  • look after your mental and physical health

Guy Edwards and Matt Zeremes shared next about their adventures together as writers, directors, actors, producers, and authors with works such as ‘The Zoo Crew, Zombie Diaries and Hardball’.

They encouraged our leaders to:

  • embrace failure with resilience, acceptance, and determination
  • utilise support from teachers and professional mentors

Cate Campbell the Australian multi medal winning Olympic swimmer also stirred us with her beliefs of:

  • being brave and humble
  • sacrificing to achieve
  • dealing with change through accepting, adapting, and acting

Lachie Smart ended the conference by sharing his challenges and successes as the youngest person to fly around the world solo.

His story reminded our leaders to:

  • view failure as a time to learn
  • have a strong support network
  • maintain determination to seek out your purpose

What did our school leaders take away from this day of learning and inspiration?

Audrey: “I love you get to learn about resilience and being a strong leader”

Jeremy: “You need to sacrifice to be successful”

Kyle: “Push through the hard times, don’t give up and persevere”

Lauren: “I want to be a good leader all the time, not just when someone is watching”

Libbi: “Things take time, be patient and persevere”

Stella: “Be determined and try hard, stay focussed, work as a team and never give up”

Amelia: “Lead with laughter, help everybody”

Tyran: “Never give up, keep going even if you have troubles”

Sam: “Work really hard, when things go wrong adapt, accept and act”

All these thoughts apply not just to our leaders but to each Faith student. For each of our students to flourish and grow they must first know that they have what it takes to learn new things and that change, adaptation, failure, faith, and courage are the keys to making sure they keep trying even when things are tough. It has been a tough term with floods, COVID disruptions and families going through challenging scenarios they never anticipated. However, each day I am privileged to come to work, to the best job in the world, and have a conversation with a student that is filled with curiosity as they enter the classroom for another day of learning or a student who is showing courage as they face a day that requires them to do something out of their comfort zone or a student that just shares a smile or a story with me as I walk through the playground. Each time these things happen, I am reminded that Faith is a special community, where great things happen because we are all here with the most important people at the centre of all of our decisions – the students. So, as we head off into the Easter holiday break we wish our families a time of reflection, refreshment, and recharge. We cannot wait to continue our story together as a community in Term 2, thank you for all you do – big and small – to support us each day. You are appreciated, you are important and each of us together make a community like no other – now that is The Faith Difference!

CAFÉ FLOURISH – Will be back and open from Term 2!

Need a coffee after drop off? Café Flourish will open each morning from 8:00am – 8:45am next term, so if you have time take a moment to connect with another parent or a new family in the school. We look forward to seeing you there!

2023 ENROLMENTS – We are currently interviewing for Prep 2023 and a small number of vacancies that exist in some year levels. If you have not enrolled your child yet, please do so as soon as possible to ensure you secure your place. Places are filling fast!

CROSS COUNTRY AND FUN RUN ON FRIDAY, 1 APRIL – WE NEED YOUR HELP!

We require a few more parent volunteers to support our whole College event on Friday. If you are able to come along and help out with serving a sausage, watching a checkpoint or encouraging our kids – and you have competed your volunteer induction – please let our Junior School office know as soon as possible. We would love to see you there.

40th ANNIVERSARY HOLY WEEK – one of our very precious times in the Junior School each year is Holy week. This is our weeklong celebration of the Easter Story that involves all our classes sharing a special milestone in a Chapel service each day. This year our final service will be for the whole College, held in our Junior School SPAH. We thank all our parents for coming along this week and making it a wonderful community occasion.

FAITH FALCON JUNIOR FUTSAL CHALLENGE TOURNAMENT

A huge day of Futsal was played at the Indoor sports centre on Tuesday to wrap up the Term 1 season. The Junior School players competed to be the first House name engraved on the inaugural Falcons Junior Futsal Challenge trophy. It was a day of intense but well-played games leading up to the finals, with the top 4 teams only separated by 4 points on the top of the Pool A ladder.

Congratulations to the Grey team for taking out the Grand Final, and congratulations also to the Tri-colour team earning the right to play against the younger Pool B All-Stars in the Gala Final. With such a short season our focus has been on team play and good sporting conduct. Congratulations to the winners of the team player awards. BEWARE THE FALCON!
