Music T2 W8 2021

SHEP MS South East Queensland

Last weekend was the fifth annual State Honours Ensemble Program Middle School - South-East Queensland event. The Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University hosted a cohort of 1020 emerging musicians.

Now a firmly established aspect of music education in Queensland, SHEP has grown from relatively modest beginnings in 2001 to hosting over 4,500 students throughout Queensland each year; with many more being nominated than we are able to accommodate.

Faith was represented by Matilda Eberhard, Sierra Fringer, Rachael Hirst, Victoria Knijff, Hannah Pratsch and Amelia Pratsch in the vocal ensembles.

Congratulations to all involved.

Grace Lutheran College Workshop

After 12 months of no or limited rehearsal and performance opportunities it was with great excitement that we were able to participate in the first combined instrumental music workshop between Faith Lutheran College Redlands and Grace Lutheran College Rothwell on the 27 May.Students from our Secondary Percussion Ensemble, Cantabile Strings, Voices of Faith and Bev Rd Blokes took part in an afternoon of music making, under the expertise of each College’s musical staff.

Each ensemble spent the afternoon learning 2 new pieces of music to then perform in an informal concert. A shared pizza dinner was also a highlight as students forged new friendships with students of a similar musical mindset.

Students commented: Overall, it was a great experience. The pieces we studied were super fun and we would have liked to have spent more time on them.

We look forward to more opportunities to have an entire day to workshop and perform again.
