New Instrumental Tutors

A Big warm welcome to our new Tutors beginning next week. This is such an exciting time for our string, brass and woodwind students coming after lots of changes. Let’s welcome Ms Jinny and Ms Hayley.

Strings: Ms Jinny Kwen

Jinny began with the violin when she was 9 years old and later switched to viola at the age of 12. She attained her Associate Diploma AMEB (AMusA) four years after picking up the viola and completed her AMEB Grade 6 on piano when she was 15. She also ranked 1st in her Music Extension class during high school. Furthermore, Jinny toured around Germany, France, China and Macau with the Queensland Youth Symphony Orchestra performing in beautiful and famous cathedrals and concert halls. She was also the principal viola for Queensland Youth Orchestra 2 and went on AYO National Camp in 2017. Jinny received scholarships to Griffith Conservatorium and University of Queensland however, decided to attend Sydney Conservatorium of Music to learn from Roger Benedict. With long years of tutoring experience for both the violin and viola and completing the Opera Australia Internship, her fun and enjoyable lessons led to her students showing great success such as acceptance into Sydney Youth Orchestra with a full scholarship. Furthermore, she has taught in the most prestigious colleges during her studies in Sydney.

Woodwind & Brass Tutor: Ms Hayley Forster

Hayley is an enthusiastic Woodwind and Brass specialist who’s passion is creatively approaching the education of young musicians. Whilst completing her Bachelor of Music at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University (QCGU), Hayley was taught by renowned German flautist Gerhard Mallon, and performed with the QCGU Wind Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra. Hayley strongly believes in the notion that “music primes the brain for learning”. Research shows that students who participate in music studies most often perform highly in literacy and numeracy throughout their schooling. Hayley aims to create a safe place for students to not only strive to achieve, but to discover a love of music beyond just notes on a page.

Hayley is able to teach the following instruments: flute (+piccolo), clarinet (Bb + bass), saxophone (soprano, alto, tenor + baritone), trumpet, French horn, trombone, baritone/euphonium, tuba, bass guitar, tuned + rhythm percussion.
