Principal's Message T1 W8 2022

A God Who Hides Himself

A delayed start, a new learning program, new kids, new families, new staff, active@faith, basketball, netball, touch footy, dance classes, music lessons, floods, closures, storms, masks, no masks, chapels, Maths, English, ATAR, assignments, projects, lunches, drop off, pick up, buses, interviews, uniforms …

The list goes on. What a busy term we have had here at Faith Lutheran College. Not only have our students had a busy time in the classroom but there has been so much happening out and about as well. Schools are places of such high energy, so much is happening every day, so many wonderful opportunities for our kids occur all around us each moment. There is always a group heading off somewhere or a visiting person bringing a new idea or interesting experience for our students.

This year we have just over 120 people on our staff, we have 900 students in the college, more if you include the Kindy kids, hundreds of families, grandmas, grandpas, aunties and uncles, friends and neighbours. All of these wonderful people have worked together through delayed starts, closures, dry and wet, up and down and everything else. Our combined energy has again proven to be a blessing for the students in our care. When you do the sums there have been over 40,000 lunches consumed alone this term! Now that’s a lot of sandwiches.

And through and behind it all, actively working away in the background is a giving God of Love. I believe that God is active in the world not absent. I believe that He works through families, schools, hospitals and other agencies. Our God is not a God of history but a God of now. He does not reveal himself spectacularly, but rather He hides himself in humility, in the work of others. When he walked the earth as Jesus he did not come as a king but as a servant, a servant who was obedient even unto death.

It is a refreshing thought to know, even when you don’t feel like it, that God is actively at work in this world through your actions. Whether you are a mum or dad, a teacher or office lady, a principal or a pastor. As we all head into this well-deserved holiday break we say thank you to all the folks who have worked so hard to make this term another great one for our Faith kids, and we say thank you to our Great God of Love who has been right there with us the whole way.

Enjoy a peaceful and restful break.
