Thank You

After half a term filling in for Shane it was great to get back to the Head of Secondary job and engaging with the team. I’d like to take this opportunity to publicly thank David Moore. We are blessed with great staff at Faith and he did such a great job of running the Secondary School during that time.

Challenge

Over the years I have read many great articles about how children should not find things easy all the time. That real growth happens somewhere between the point where kids are struggling a little bit and where they are overly stressed. Think about getting fit. If you don’t push your body to the point it begins to feel uncomfortable you will not gain any improvement in fitness levels. Push yourself too far and you end up fatigued or injured and unable to function.

Over the last weekend our school took part in the Kokoda Challenge 48km walk/run. A massive total of 8 teams (made up of one staff member or parent and four students), after training for eight months, these teams had a crack at the massive elevations, steep descents and over 12 hours of walking in the rain. It was really tough. There were blisters, cramps and aches. There were times when the students would have wanted to give up, times when they would have worried they went the wrong way. Some even did go the wrong way adding 6km to their distance. You get the picture it was very, very hard, it was long and the students struggled at points to carry on.

But that struggle is where that magic happens. It is the point they step up physically to push through the pain, they silence that nagging doubt in their mind that they can’t do it and they celebrate when they finish and realise they have done it. Then the next day they have realized that they have improved physically, mentally and developed and displayed a resilience they never thought they had before. They have grown!

I was immensely proud of this group of people completing this challenge and have enjoyed hearing the stories of challenge and growth.

Pickup Next Week

On Thursday and Friday we will have some rides setup in the half of our carpark nearest the main reception in preparation for Funfest. I would encourage you to think about seeing if your child is able to be picked up offsite on these days or think about arriving a little later for pickup as the placement of the rides will impact the flow of traffic through the carpark. I also thank you in advance for your patience on these days.

Dress Up

A reminder that Wednesday, 24 August is Book Week dress up. This is an exciting time for our College and we encourage students to dress up. There is nothing better for a community than all being able to come together for events like these.

40th Anniversary Shirts

On Friday, 26 August we are having our rescheduled Foundation Day celebrations. We ask on this day that students wear their 40th Anniversary shirt. If they don’t have one please can they wear their House shirts.
